Fire Department and Paramedic ProgramDr. Gibree is designing field tests and treatment protocol for both the fire department and the paramedic program for oral trauma when it involves avulsed teeth. He and North Georgia Smiles are sponsoring the tooth saving program by providing the solution and tooth saver kits to store teeth that get knocked out. These kits provide a window of up to 24 hours to reimplant the tooth and still have a chance of survival. Using the kit allows emergency responders to get accident victims stable and tend to more serious injuries before addressing any dental trauma. Dr. Gibree is preparing a similar treatment protocol for local area schools to protect your child's smile.

Saving a toothFind the tooth and rinse it gently in cool water. (Do not scrub it or clean it with soap -- use just water!) If possible, replace the tooth in the socket and hold it there with clean gauze or a wash cloth. If you can't put the tooth back in the socket, place the tooth in a clean container with milk, saliva, or water. Even better place the tooth in a Toothsaver or Save-A-Tooth container. Call North Georgia Smiles immediately. (Call the emergency
number if it's after hours.) The faster you act, the better your chances
of
saving
the
tooth. |
