Periodontal Treatment

Dr. Gibree's research into the treatment of periodontal (gum) disease has led him to two new medications that, when used in combination with a deep cleaning, can often limit the need for the gum surgery that was in the past necessary. Even in people with advanced gum disease that absolutely must be treated surgically, these new miraculous medications minimize the surgical treatment needed and greatly enhance and shorten the recovery period.

Arestin is a new local delivery antibiotic treatment for gum disease. Used in combination with deep cleanings, Arestin helps to limit bacteria around the teeth on a local level. It is used in specific deeper areas where the gum infection lies hiding. Arestin is painlessly placed under the gums where it slowly releases medication that kills bacteria over several days. Arestin will give patients a chance of avoiding periodontal surgery.

After a deep cleaning it is important to follow up with proper home care. Using a rinse like Peridex after deep cleanings will help in healing of the tissue and prohibit bacteria formation.

Arestin

Arestin is a tetracycline antibiotic used for the treatment of adult periodontal (gum) disease after a professional dental deep cleaning. It is painless to apply and is completely resorbed leaving nothing to be removed. Research has shown it to be effective in helping the gums to heal properly.

Peridex

Peridex is a prescription mouth rinse that reduces the redness, swelling and bleeding of the gums.
